\Pride and Prejudice takes place in England. Some of the houses that are mentioned in the story are The Bennet’s House and Netherfield. This particular Jane Austen novel takes place in the early nineteenth century. Miss Elizabeth Bennet is the main character of this book. She is very lovely, clever, and loyal, but judges people very harshly. Elizabeth is the second eldest child of her very lovely family. Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy, the story’s protagonist, is very handsome and rich. Despite his good looks and fortune, Mr. Darcy is a very disagreeable man and has too much pride. Mr. Charles Bingley, the owner of Netherfield, is probably best described as the opposite of Mr. Darcy even though they are friends. Mr. Bingley is very agreeable, good humoured, gentlemanlike, rich, and handsome. The eldest Bennet daughter, Jane Bennet, is pretty, cheerful, gentle, friendly, and all together almost never thinks bad about people. Miss Caroline Bingley is Mr. Bingley’s sister. Since she is quite respectable, proud, pretty, and wealthy, she isn’t fond of anyone except her family and Mr. Darcy. Now that you know some of the main characters, let’s get to know the conflict of the book. The climax is basically in it’s name, Pride and Prejudice v.s. Mr. Darcy’s and Miss Elizabeth’s relationship. Mr. Darcy has too much pride, and Elizabeth has too much prejudice. Together they have to figure out a way to be happy. Now this is how it started.
Mr. and Mrs. Bennet have 5 daughters, Jane, Elizabeth, Mary, Kitty, and Lydia. The Bennet’s want to get their daughter’s married before Mr. Bennet dies and they lose their home. Everyone thinks Jane is going to be engaged to Mr. Bingley, their new neighbour. Mr. Bingley, his sister, and Mr. Darcy went to London without saying good-bye. Soon after Mr. William Collins, Mr. Bennet’s cousin, comes to stay at the Bennet Rresidence until he inherits the house. He proposes to Elizabeth, but she refuses against her mother’s pleasure. Mr. Collins then becomes engaged to her closest friend, Charlotte Lucas. Jane goes to London to visit her aunt and uncle, Tthe Gardiners, and maybe Mr. Bingley. Jane doesn’t see Mr. Bingley, but she sees his sister, Miss Bingley, who isn’t very inviting to Jane. Later, Elizabeth goes and stays with her friend, Charlotte Lucas and her husband, Mr. Collins. It turns out they live near Lady Catherine de Bourgh, who invites them to dinner a numberous amount of times. Mr. Darcy happens to be Lady Catherine’s nephew, so Elizabeth starts to see more and more of him. Elizabeth finds out from his cousin, Colonel Fitzwilliam that Mr. Darcy is the one who prevented Mr. Bingley from proposing to Jane because Mr. Darcy thought Jane didn’t love Mr. Bingley. Mr. Darcy couldn’t take it anymore, he admired Elizabeth. So he confessed his love and proposed. Elizabeth responded__________, and you’ll have to read the rest of the book to know. But be warned, that there is a whole lot more work to fix this happily ever after.
