In this paper, we present the analysis and the research results of the project entitled "xxx" that is performed at the Faculty of Philology, which owas ccuarried doue to thbecause of increased interest in pragmatics and pragmatic studies of teaching and acquiring a foreign language (English and German). In the center of this research paper, the speech act of request is considered and our attempt is to define the parts of this act, supported by examples provided by our respondents - students from the English and German departments at the Faculty of Philology in Stip. The analyzes are directed towards examininge the components of this speech act, such as an appeal, additional elements for expression of this speech act, the head of the speech act, the internal modifiers, as well as a detailed review of the internal and external modifiers so that we can see which of them are the most used items. Our analysis focuses further focuses on the syntactic downgraders and their function, which are used to express the speech act of request, as well as their specificity in the mother tongue and in the foreign language, tooas well. The results are confirmed by the test examples received by the discourse completion test (DCT), and also by the examples derived from the other instruments for testing and assessing pragmatic competence (e.g. role plays).
