Dr White also conducted an excellent workshop on Interdisciplinary Approaches to Addressing the Grand Challenges which was very well received by the Taylor’s Grand Challenge Scholar Programme's (TGSP) mentors and scholars that attended the workshop. She also attended the TGCSP Town Hall meeting during which five of the GC scholars presented their journey to achieving their GC programme outcomes. Dr White applauded at the creative and sustainable projects carried out by the scholars and found them to be very inspiring.
It was indeed a memorable visit by Dr White and the school looks forward to welcoming her once again in the upcoming Engineering Fair and EURECA in December 2016!
28Twenty-eight students from Eindhoven University of Technology in the Netherlands, accompanied by their lecturer, Professor Volker Hesse,l visited the School of Engineering for a one day visit. The visit was part of their one week study tour in Malaysia. The students were mainly undergraduates and postgraduates from the Chemical Engineering Department. During their visit, these students had the opportunity to learn about how project -based education is offered in the SOE, namely the CDIO tool. They were not only introduced to the CDIO tools in a classroom style but also had the opportunity to apply these tools during a workshop that was conducted by some of the CDIO lecturers in the SOE.
The visitors were extremely impressed with the beauty of the campus as well as the conducive learning environment and facilities provided. They also appreciated the importance of project -based learning in engineering education and mentioned that they would use some of these tools learnt during their visit when they work on future projects. Apart from TU, the students spendt their time in Malaysia to visiting other universities and companies such as University Science Malaysia as well as an oleochemical company.
