My role as a student Social Worker will be to interview G, to get information on how she is coping as a single parent while on the programme. I will also explore the relationship between her fiancé and her son;, and the family as a whole. This is because I will like to know if there has been any issue, and/or the type of attachment between G’s fiancé and G’s son. It will be interesting to know if the child is safe with him first, and if G is also safe with him.

I will use Tavistock Model as an observation model because it does not involve taking notes during observation. It is a psychoanalytical model where observation is written down in details and discussed with colleagues and/or supervisor as soon as possible after the observation. This is because an observer stands a chance of forgetting vital details if left until later. The discussion with colleagues and/or supervisor is like brainstorming, which will open the observer’s eyes to things s/he might have missed and gives him/her better ideas and understanding of the case.
