In 1985, Edward De Bono invented this concept in 1985. This theory represents the six, cognitive means of teaching learners. The purpose of this ideaapproach is to help people to analyse the dimensions of an intricate problem. It enables individuals to conjure up solutions in their heads. Furthermore, it prompts the human brain to conduct critical thinking, (Brian, B. and Payette, P., 2017, p. 2).
The hats are coloured as black, yellow, red, green, blue, and white. They depict “a different logical and philosophical approach to thinking about a problem and trying to solve it,” (Kivunja, 2015, p. 382, as cited in Brian, B. and Payette, P., 2017, p. 2). This framework of assessment aims to makebreak down the investigation of issues into manageable parts.
Students would implement a particular strategy. They wouldand attempt to tease out the individual components of a problem, individually. They would then glean information from judgementsjudgement of an issue. They would perform this action using discernment and deductive reasoning, (Brian, B. and Payette, P., 2017, p. 2).
