Throughout history there have been major events that have caused a division between races. The Civil Rights Movement was a challenge to segregation and discrimination, as well as a struggle by African Americans to achieve racial equality. Sam Cooke’s “A Change Is Gonna Come”, was written in the midst of a time wherewhen African Americans were not given the equal rights as the white Americans in the nation. This song allows for an insight on the true struggles African Americans went through to get their voices heard to find hope in that a change was bound to happen.
The Civil Rights Movementcivil rights movement was very significant for the equality of all people. African American individuals challenged segregation and discrimination by organizing boycotts, nonviolent protests, and even refused to accept segregation laws. Martin Luther King Jr. and Rosa Parks are two of the most influential people during the civil rights movement that allowed for changes to occur and the voices of African Americans to be heard.
