In the book, novel Frankenstein, by Mary Shelley, Victor is the protagonist because he is trying to defeat the antagonist, the monster. To explain, after he sees the corpse of his old friend, Henry Clerval, he says, “Have my murderous machinations deprived you also, my dearest Henry, of life? Two I have already destroyed; other victims await their destiny: but you, Clerval, my friend, my benefactor-” (Shelley 129). This shows the grief and the pain the monster has caused Victor to have. This demonstrates how Victor is the protagonist because the monster is trying to get revenge for bringing him to life. Another example showsis when Victor when he says, “I had formed in my own heart a resolution to pursue [the monster] to death; and this purpose quieted my agony, and for an interval reconciled me to life" (Shelley 147). This displays the hatred that Victor has for the monster, and how he wants to get revenge on him for killing his friends and family. This again testifies Victor is the protagonist. All sides considered, that Victor Frankenstein is the protagonist inof the book, novel Frankenstein.
