Ficus is a prominent tree species of the Moraceae family. It is a deciduous tree and thatit
originates in the Mediterranean regions. Due to their non-seasonal fruit production, fig is
an essential "keystone" part of tropical and subtropical ecosystems. Many genera of ficus
have grown as both indoor and outdoor plants. The conserved pollination mechanism of
fig trees by fig wasp and their mutualism is unprecedented in nature. The wasps are the
sole pollinators of ficus. The fig wasp lays eggs in syconium (Inflorescence) and each
inflorescence contains many flowers. A female fig wasp enters into the mature
inflorescence to spread the pollen and lay eggs. In addition, the wasp turns the flowers
into galls, for which the offspring are fed and sheltered. In turn, the wasp provides pollen
to the fig trees for seed setting and ripening. Therefore, the seed feeding wasp larva
develops; a compromise which causes a fundamental co-evolutionary conflict between fig
and fig pollinating agent. The article summarizes the co - evolution of fig and fig waspwasps
during the pollination of trees and how it impacts the ficus reproduction.
