Upon the pursuit ofIn order to pursue my undergraduate career, I devoted my summertime to a hospital in the RGV known as Doctor’s Hospital at Renaissance. During this period, I primarily volunteered in the pharmacy department of the Women’s Hospital and outer branches. Communicating with nurses offrom various departments regarding to patient medications and itstheir preparation gave me a glimpse onof how important pharmacy practice is. Furthermore, communication interactions with nursing staff advanced my skills by practicingas I practiced how to effectively communicate with pharmacy technicians, IV technicians, and pharmacists. Observing the leadership of a pharmacist in the management of compounded IV preparations offered me an insight oninto how the adequate delivery of medication to the bedside is vital for patient care. A practicepractical example of this that I experienced as a pharmacy tech trainee wasinvolved consulting with a nurse from the Oncology Institute regarding the need of chemotherapy medication for a specific patient. I recognized the priority of the pharmacist’s knowledge in their approval to dispense medications, as I delivered the chemotherapy treatment to the oncology department. AnThe opportunity of receivingto receive a DoctorDoctorate of Pharmacy will grantprovide me thewith expertise in conducting and managing course of treatments to improve patients’ wellbeingwell-being as a clinical pharmacist.

In one of my semester breaks after an academic term, I volunteered my time inat a local, retail pharmacy. WithDuring this experiencetime, I shadowed the pharmacist’s responsibilitypharmacist in the preparation of medications and counseling of patients pertaining to the proper use of their medications. PerceivingUnderstanding and participating in the daily duties of the pharmacist revealedshowed the entrustmenttrust that was built with the patients, and how pharmacists serve as personal confidants with theirwhen they provide pharmacological guidance. As a pharmacy tech extern, I collaborated with pharmacy technicians and interactinteracted with patients of different socioeconomic backgrounds.
