There was an exchange student named Sara in my high school. Many of us were quite excited to have a foreigner studying with us in the same classroom. As soon as the class was over, a flock of students flooded to greet her. However, instead of a smiling face we expected, we saw a puzzled face with shock. After politely responding to our greetings, she seemed to try her best to become “invisible”. By saying “invisible”, I meantmean she hardly raised her head during the whole class. Later, I learned that she might be experiencing “culture shock”.
A few days later, we were on the threshold of our vacation. Since Sara was assigned to our group, our group decided to invite Sara to have a picnic at a park that Friday. She was delighted to accept the invitation. When it
comescame to Friday, we managed to get there earlier. What’s interesting was that she didn’t arrive there earlier or later. Honestly speaking, she arrived there right on time. Things went very well at first and we were really having a conversation. Unfortunately, the atmosphere has becomebecame quite awkward since she found some people she barely knew there. Sara gradually became silent, even had a distance from us. We tried to talk to her but in vain. She was unwilling to respond, only nodded or shook her head. What’s worse, she told us she had to leave about 20 minutes later. We were all confused about her decision. At last, she didn’t take our advice to stay and left by bus. The rest of us were also depressed because of that. That day wasn’t a good day at all.
